Northeast Side Taildraggers (NeST-RC) is a radio-controlled model aircraft club located about 15 miles northeast of Indianapolis Indiana, first chartered by the AMA in March of 2011.  We have developed a flying site near Klipsch (formerly Verizon Wireless) Music Center, just off exit 210 on I-69. In 2012 we signed a 5 year agreement with the City of Noblesville to fly behind the Fire Station at 15251 Olio Road.  An enormous amount of work has gone in to this site development.  Site amenities include:

  • Runway 17/35 is 365’ long and 52’ wide, and is covered by a smooth geotextile fabric material.  The fabric is an excellent flying surface for all wheeled aircraft – micro to 40%.
  • Runway 9/27 is 258’ long and 35’ wide, and is also covered in geotextile fabric.
  • The entire pit area and ample taxiway space is also covered in geotextile fabric.
  • There are 3 dedicated helicopter circles on the fabric connector between the runways.
  • The runways are marked with numbers and centerlines, the safety flight line and taxi areas are also marked.
  • There are 8 safety pilot stations; 4 in front of runway 17/35, 2 in front of the heli circles and 2 in front of runway 9/27.
  • There are 6 custom-built pit tables in the pit area (more will be built as needed).
  • There is a 20’ x 20’ metal shelter on the spectator side of the pit fence with 3 picnic tables and a locker cabinet (all members have access to the locker cabinet).
  • Port-a-potty on-site
  • Parking on site for up to 20 vehicles.  Overflow parking in the fire station lot for up to 20 more vehicles.
  • Coming soon!!  120VAC electrical outlets!

Field hours are:
Weekends and holidays – 9:00 am to dark
Weekdays – 5:00 pm to dark
We can attempt to obtain permission to open the site during weekdays between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.  They fire station conducts occasional regional training on equipment between our field and the fire house.  They have asked that we close the field during those exercises.

Club members are required to be members in good standing in the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Membership also requires payment of annual dues. First time members also pay a field improvement fee. Dues and fees are discounted for seniors, full-time students and family members of open members. See our by-laws and field rules documents for specific dues details. Our membership is varying in age and in types of aircraft. We have members in their pre-teens and in their 80s. There are high performance 1/6th scale nitro airplanes, ¼ scale gas, electric ducted fan jets, WWII Warbirds nitro and electrics, 1/6 scale 4-strokes, electric helicopters, electric micros, foamie combat etc., etc., etc. We participate in the AMA introductory pilot program, and we offer free flight instruction with experienced instructors. Club instructors will “buddy-box" with students and anyone who wants help with their equipment.  The club also maintains a club trainer aircraft that is available for “rent” on a per-flight basis, to give anyone interested in trying the hobby the opportunity to do so before making a large investment in equipment.  Contact us for more information about any of these options. The club maintains a Facebook group page (search for “Northeast Side Taildraggers” on Facebook).  There is no cost or obligation to join the Facebook group page, and it is where most of the inter-member communication takes place.  Feel free to request access to that page.  One of the administrators will grant it as soon as they see it.

Thanks for your interest.  We hope to see you out at the NeST real soon!!
